The Beier Group Chess Programme at Sithokozile Secondary School, located in KwaDabeka Township, west of Durban, helps young learners develop the professional and leadership skills needed for today’s working environment.
We see chess as an effective tool for building critical and strategic thinking, while improving learners’ focus, discipline and analytical capabilities. Our programme has seen six to seven learners progress to the South African Junior Chess Championships each year since 2016.
The confidence and skills nurtured through the programme have helped one previous matriculant to start a chess club in his community.
